What does new build interior design actually include?

It depends on the scope, but our full-service new build offering typically covers interior concept direction, material and finish selection, joinery design and documentation, lighting and fittings specification, and furniture, art and object curation. For clients who are further along in their build and just need help with the furnishing side, we also offer our End-to-End Furnishing and Design Curation services. We'll always recommend the right level of involvement for where your project is at.

How long does the interior design process take for a new build?

For furnishing and styling focused projects, the design phase usually takes 2 to 6 weeks, followed by procurement and lead times depending on the pieces selected. For full-scope new build projects involving joinery, materials and construction coordination, we recommend getting us involved at least 3 to 6 months before you'd want everything resolved. Starting early gives us the time to make considered decisions without the pressure of a handover deadline.

When is the best time to bring Furnishd into a new build project?

The earlier, the better. Ideally we're involved before key decisions around joinery, finishes and lighting have been locked in, as these are the elements that shape how a space feels from the inside out. That said, we regularly join projects mid-build or post-completion, and we'll always work with where you're at. Our furnishing-focused services start from $1,250 for a single space, while full-scope design for a new build is scoped based on your project. Do you work directly with architects and builders?

Yes, and we find these projects tend to produce the best results. When the interior design is coordinated alongside the construction process, decisions around joinery integration, electrical layouts and material selections are made with the full picture in mind. We're used to collaborating with architects and builders across Melbourne and nationally, and we're happy to slot into an existing project team.
