Introducing Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2022 – a vibrant and refreshing brand new colour, designed to reflect an era of unprecedented change in the wake of recent global events.
The official description of “Very Peri” is a dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet-red undertone that blends the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red. According to Pantone, the striking colour tone is considered to be futuristic in feeling and encouraging inventiveness and creativity.
PANTONE® 17-3938 Very Peri is the first “Colour of the Year” to be created from scratch, marking a milestone moment in Pantone’s 22-year history. It was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, growing concern over climate change, and other societal issues currently under the spotlight, such as flaws in the justice system.
What the Very Peri 2022 Colour of the Year signifies, in Pantone’s own words:
Pantone Colour Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman said that as we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue colour family, encompassing the qualities of the blues.
“Yet at the same time with its violet red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions,” she said.
